Neighbourly

Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to Neighbourly. This page explains how information is handled when you use the Neighbourly app and related services.

Effective 11 August 2026 · Web version updated 13 August 2026
Plain-language commitment. Neighbourly uses information to provide neighbourhood discovery, account features, reviews, business claims, support, notifications, AI-assisted features, analytics and platform security. Neighbourly does not sell users' personal information as a product or service.

1. About this policy

Neighbourly is a neighbourhood discovery application designed to help people discover useful local businesses and services. This Privacy Policy explains the information Neighbourly may collect, why it is used, how it is protected, how it may be shared with service providers, and the choices available to you.

2. Information you provide

When you create or use a Neighbourly account, you may provide information such as your preferred name, phone number, optional gender information, email address and account information needed to provide authentication. You may also provide content through reviews, business claims, supporting documents, support requests and other information you choose to submit through the app.

3. Location information

With your permission, Neighbourly may use your device location to show nearby businesses, calculate distance and improve neighbourhood discovery. You can deny or change location permission at any time through Android settings. Neighbourly continues to provide features that do not require your current location where those features can operate without it.

4. App activity and preferences

Neighbourly may store information needed to provide features such as favourites, saved places, recent searches, notifications, review history, account preferences and support activity. Some information may be stored on your device and some may be synchronized through Neighbourly's cloud services.

5. Reviews and other user content

Reviews, ratings and other content that you intentionally publish may be visible to other Neighbourly users. Your private account information is not intended to be displayed publicly unless the feature clearly tells you that the information will be public. Content may be reviewed or moderated when necessary to protect users, enforce Neighbourly's Terms of Use and Community Guidelines, or respond to reports.

6. Business claims and support

If you claim a business or contact support, Neighbourly may process the information and documents you submit in order to verify the request, communicate with you, protect the integrity of business listings and resolve support issues. Administrative notes intended only for Neighbourly administrators are kept separate from customer-visible support information.

7. Neighbourly AI

Neighbourly uses AI-assisted features to help interpret natural-language discovery requests and to generate helpful summaries from business information and reviews. Information submitted to AI-assisted features may be processed through Firebase AI / Gemini services. AI is used to support discovery and explanation; controlled business information remains the source of truth for business identity, location, contact information, hours and Neighbourly ratings.

8. Notifications and device information

If notifications are enabled, Neighbourly may register your device for notifications and use notification-related identifiers so that account updates, support updates and announcements can reach the correct device. You can disable notifications through your device settings.

9. Analytics and service security

Neighbourly may use Firebase Analytics and related Firebase services to understand app usage, improve reliability and support product development. Firebase App Check and other security controls may also be used to help protect Neighbourly's backend services from unauthorized access or abuse.

10. Service providers and data sharing

Neighbourly relies on technology providers that help operate the app, including Google Firebase services, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Storage, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firebase Analytics, Firebase App Check, Firebase AI / Gemini and Google Play Services Location. Directions may be handed off to a mapping application installed on your device. Information is shared with or processed by these providers only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, maintain and improve Neighbourly, subject to their applicable terms and privacy practices.

11. How information is used

Information is used to operate Neighbourly, provide account features, show relevant nearby businesses, support reviews and business claims, maintain favourites and saved places, provide support, deliver notifications, improve the product, protect users and the platform, investigate misuse and comply with applicable legal obligations.

12. Sale of personal information

Neighbourly does not sell users' personal information as a product or service. If Neighbourly's ownership changes in the future, information may be transferred as part of a legitimate business transaction subject to applicable law and appropriate safeguards.

13. Data retention

Neighbourly keeps information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security, preserve legitimate business and audit records, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Different categories of information may have different retention periods.

14. Account deletion

Users may request deletion of their Neighbourly account and associated personal data through the account-deletion controls provided by Neighbourly. A public account-deletion resource is also provided for users who no longer have access to the app. Some information may be retained where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution or legitimate record-keeping. Information that must be retained will no longer be used for normal account activity.

15. Security

Neighbourly uses authentication, Firestore security rules, role-based access controls, staged administrative workflows and other technical safeguards intended to protect account and platform data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so users should also protect their account credentials and devices.

16. Your choices

You can manage app permissions through Android settings, clear recent searches stored by the app, manage notifications, edit or delete your own review, sign out of your account and use Neighbourly's account-deletion process.

17. Children's privacy

Neighbourly is designed as a general neighbourhood discovery service. It is not designed specifically for children. Users should only provide personal information where they are legally permitted to do so.

18. Changes to this policy

Neighbourly may update this Privacy Policy when the product, legal requirements or data practices change. The effective date or update date shown on this page will be revised when material changes are made.

19. Contact

For privacy questions, data requests or account-related concerns, contact Neighbourly at neighbourlygh@gmail.com. You may also use Help & Support inside the Neighbourly app.
